Entourage

Yes, this show has been around a while. I am a late comer to this program but I love it. Having just bought the first season on dvd yesterday, I already got through the 8 episodes as it is highly entertaining. Following the escapades of Vince Chase and his Queens buddies who form his entourage, we see whether has what it takes to make or break in Hollywood. Influenced by the early career of Mark Wahlberg, who executive produces, this is a witty and sharp tale of buddies who just happen to be in the entertainment business. Great cameos from the likes of Val Kilmer and an outstanding turn by Jeremy Piven, who steals every scene as Ari, Vince's agent.

Here is a monateg of Ari from Entourage. Regardez!!

Black Christmas

As there are no CINaddiction podcasts till 2007, my film reviews will be on here.

There is nothing like a bit of festive horror, there is not enough of it in my opinion. My favourite would have to be Gremlins, but that walks the fine line between comedy and horror. Black Christmas has its moments of comedy, some intentional, some not so much. It is a remake of the 70's film which should be more well known, it did influence films such as Halloween. There is not much difference between the two films, other than they add more back story to the killer. Usually, this can ruin a film (Charlie And The Chocolate Factory), in this case, I liked it.

Basically, Billy Lenz is a psycho. His mother hated him and later in life he snaps and kills his mother and eats her. Every year he says he is going back home from the confines of his cell in the mental institution. This year he fulfils his promise to find his old home is now a sorority house full of attractive ladies. Let the bloodbath commence.

This film is nothing special but that is because it doesn't try anything new but what it does, it is done effectively and that was more than enough to entertain me. It is pretty obvious who will survive and my favourite came to her demise (again, why?). It is a twisted little tale but isn't as good as the original. 6/10

Voxtrot

Here is a nice little band who have two e.p.'s out and I can't recommend them enough. They are very consistent and my personal favourite is Mothers, Sisters, Daughters & Wives. Here is a live performance of them from November 1 at The Troubadour in West Hollywood performing my favourite. Enjoy.

Wow, It Has Been A While

How come I always seem to be apologising on this damn site? Oh yeah, because I haven't been posting. Well, that will be the end of no posting. That was the dark times of The Media Mentalist, but he has been revitalised. No, he hasn't discovered aqua vita, just motivation. Nothing more, nothing less. Today, I am going to do a major posting session. I may even discuss a new game entitled "Tuna Fish Sandwich" but I may leave that for another time.

Anyways, whenever I do this apology post, I always post a picture of an attractive lady. I will not buck this trend. This lady is Mary Elizabeth Winstead, a fellow Sagittarius, she turned 22 on November 28th and is currently in Black Christmas, the remake from Glen Morgan, of Final Destination fame. Enjoy.

New Never Mind The Buzzcocks

I remember the good ol' days of Mark LaMarr, but out with old and in with the new. The new being Simon Amstell, former Popworld presenter. He is a good choice for the host, he obviously isn't the powerhouse of LaMarr but he is perfect for the role. This is an example episode of Buzzcocks. Enjoy!!

Part 1

Part 2

Part 3

Culture Beat

This is pure 90's cheese music, love it!!

Funny Video - Just An Illusion

By Imagination, the video to this song is so daft, check it!!

Gwen Stefani - Wind It Up

Ok, Gwen was great in No Doubt and her first solo effort.....I quite liked. It was a decent pop record. Is this a step too far? I laughed when I first heard this, the usage of Sound Of Music in a pop song is crazy and lazy in equal measures. It is a fairly bland song but something still makes me like the song.....I think it is sooooo bad it's entertaining to listen to, just about. Here is a poor quality version of the video.

Matt & Kim - Yea Yeah

Another video from Matt & Kim. This is Yea Yeah. Peace.

Matt & Kim

Matt & Kim are the new Ramones.....and I love it. Their songs are simple and pure. Kim is on drums and Matt is on old keyboards, the sound is raw and energetic, if slightly repetitive. Their videos are great too, showing off a subversive humour which matches the songs. Here is the video for first single off their self titled debut, 5K, enjoy!!

The Blood Brothers - Love Rhymes With Hideous Car Wrecks

The Blow - Parenthesis

Spektrum - Don't Be Shy

The Sounds - Painted By Numbers

Tenacious D - Death Of A Dream

Funny Video

Petrified

Ok, I know many people get annoyed when I mention Linkin Park (guilty pleasure, rubbish really). Well, I am taking it a step forward.....Fort Minor. Ha Ha. This is Petrified by Fort Minor, I will say it works better when I heard it on CSI: NY (Gary Sinise rules!!)

Pan's Labyrinth Trailer

Out in the UK, it is brilliant!!! Must see film of this year, you will love it. Coma and verbally abuse me if you don not like this film!!!! It is THAT good!!!

The Best Action Sequence In Casino Royale!!!!

This is near the opening of the film and Bond has to stop a bomber who also is a free-runner. Check this out!!!

Birthday Weekend - Yay!!!

Yes, It is The Mentalist's Birthday Weekend and to celebrate I've gotten drunk and seen a shedload of flicks. I checked out Pan's Labyrinth (awesome) and Tenacious D In The Pick Of Destiny (not too shabby). I will do full articles on them later but for now I am going on a posting spree and we keep in touch with some awesome videos. Peace.

Oh and yeah.....thought I'd post a hottie. Eva Green from Casino Royale. Pourquoi pas?

The Prestige

Christopher Nolan......a British director who currently has a great track record.....Memento, Insomnia and revitalising the Batman franchise with Batman Begins. Now, The Prestige......any good?

Of course it bloody is, it is a great film about two rival magicians whose rivarly leads to a death but who did it? And how? The time frame is fractured with flashbacks within flashbacks, all trying to confuse but it is an entertaining film, even if it does leave you cold. The performances are great all around, Bale, as ever is perfect. Hugh Jackman who hasn't really had a chance to shine other than Wolverine, is great in this film.

Yes, it has many twists and some people have complained that they guessed the twists.......the film is not trying to deceive you, it is trying to deceive each other and it is not a film that is dependent upon its twist (unlike all of Shyalaman's films, which are nothing BUT the twist).
I recommend people to go see this. 8/10

Many Apologies From The Mentalist....

Been ill.......not really. Been injured.......not really. I have been very busy getting ready for my birthday and drinking.......yeah, that's the reason. The Mentalist has had a lack of posts in recent weeks and there s no need to worry, it will be back in full force over the next week or so. It will be bristling with postage that you will have wished me to shut the hell up. Yes, Im back, meaner than ever. Not that I was mean in the first place, but ya know, twas a figure of speech and now I am rambling. Great!!! Back to business.

Starter For Ten

This is a great little film starring James McAvoy (Channel 4's Shameless) as an Essex lad who applies to Bristol University, gets in and we follow his escapades as he joins the University Challenge team and becomes attracted to a girl who may not be right for him.

Yes, the story sounds cliched and it doesn't exactly have me running to the cinema now, but you must see it as it is really funny, charming film and McAvoy easily holds the film together. Special mentions also go to Alive Eve (daughter of Trevor) and Rebecca Hall as the left wing activist.

I loved this film and it isn't normally the sort of film that I go see but it charmed me and was won over by it. I recommend everyone to go see it. 8/10

This is his most underrated song, in my opinion. Enjoy!!!

Anyways, here is the video for Love Me Or Hate Me.

Asobi Seksu - New Years

This isn't an official video for this song but having just heard this song, I feel anything with this tune should be posted. Thanks to Mean Dawg for the tune. Very nice, Indeed. Peace.

Kevin Pollak's Aristocrat Joke

This Kevin Pollak's Christopher Walken impression of The Aristocrats joke. Need to be seen.

The Last Kiss

If anyone has heard the 2nd episode of CINaddiction, should know how I feel about this film. If you haven't heard it, well go listen to it NOW!!!

To be blunt, I detest The Last Kiss, this film made me angry.......and I am not alone. The entire audience was angry at all the characters. They are all a bunch of yuppies making really stupid errors of judgement and never fully realising their mistakes. Some people call this "realistic", these characters are such stereotypes and 2 dimensional, it was so far from realistic it hurt.
Basically, Zach Braff is in a really great relationship, and then wants to try it with Rachel Bilson of O.C. fame. Yes, she's attractive but his relationship is far too great for him to even consider it. His friends are even worse and are not likeable at all. Scripted by Paul Haggis of Million Dollar Baby (Ugh!!) and Crash (Good, but overrated).

I recommend this if you want to get really aggressive at stupid characters who you are glad to not be. It is bad film by Tony Goldwyn, and even though the characters are unlikeable, Zach Braff is still really good. Only if you have seen everything else. 4/10

Swing Blade

Nice little parody trailer. What would happen if you mix Sling Blade and Swingers.......Watch!!!

The Venture Brothers

Ok, only just heard about this last night from Jerome but it's so cool, it needs to get a Mentalist Mention. The Venture Brothers is this cartoon that can be found on adult swim. It is basically all about superheros and supervillans but it has such a twisted humour and great references, it is well worth a watch. Here's an episode I watched last night called The Trial Of The Monarch, it's in 3 parts. Enjoy!!

But First, Here's The Intro To The Venture Brothers.

Saw 3

Another Halloween weekend, another Saw film. The first Saw, highly original but with bad acting from the two leads ruining some of the atmosphere but saved from the amazing ending. The sequel is a house of horrors with the serial killer Jigsaw coming to the fore and instead of losing atmosphere, it heightens it. Donnie Wahlberg is great as the detective who interrogates Jigsaw (Tobin Bell). Personally, it was an overall better film than the original. Now the 3rd film is here, has it finally run out of steam?

Nope, even though it relies a bit too much on flashbacks, it is my favourite film in the series. Hopefully, this will be the end and they can call this a trilogy as it links back to all the previous entries and ties alot of things up. Jigsaw is in ill health, he can't even leave his bed but he is still able to get his games being played. A man who lost his son in a hit and run accident is forced to go through trials to test him and hopefully make him a better man. There are many other plot strands which I don't want to reveal as it may ruin enjoyment of the film. You NEED to have seen the previous films before you see this, this film is for the fans.

It is a much more character based film, more in vein to the original. I have thought about this next point for a while and I am confident in saying that this is the best horror trilogy yet. Each film has been a different beast and there have not been a significant dip in quality in any of them. There is a moment, about 20 minutes in, where I thought the film had lost its way but thankfully it was only a moment. Go see it, especially if you are fan of these films. 8/10

Welcome again

For some reason, beyond my powers, my previous site Media Mentalists has stopped responding to me; possibly due to Meat Loaf overload, it happens. So, to rectify the problem.....ta-dah, the new site which looks.....strangely similar to my previous site. I will be posting quite alot soon so keep checking us out. Apologies for people who frequent Media Mentalists, to make up for it, here's Shawnee Smith from Saw 3. Peace.
